Four things for you to consider
1) Our own National Archives is seeking public comments on updates to its Strategic Plan. Comments are due by August 5. Of particular note are changes in these areas:
Strategies for expanding NARA’s leadership in Federal records management, including electronic records management A strategy for establishing a new National Declassification Center Recognition of ERA as one tool in a larger electronic records program Inclusion of social media tools as new ways for the public and NARA to interact
If you’re interested in what’s going on at NARA, you should read this document carefully to see what is in it–and what is not. I’d be interested in your thoughts.
2) The Society of American Archivists is soliciting comments on three documents:
Even if you don’t have time to comment, if you’re an SAA member I recommend you at least read over these to see what SAA is doing. I’ll be posting on at least the first two documents in the next few days.
3) SAA has also released a Statement of Best Practices for Orphan Works. As SAA states on its website:
According to the U.S. Copyright Office, the problem of orphan works is pervasive and challenges those who are managing risk and liability when a copyright owner cannot be identified or located. “Orphan Works: A Statement of Best Practices” provides information on reasonable efforts to identify and locate rights holders.
If you have orphan works (and who doesn’t?), you should read this.
4) THAT Camp Austin is on! If you want more information, it’s all here. If I make it in, I hope to see some of you there!

Thanks for bringing attention to item 1 through ArchivesNext and encouraging the blog’s followers comment. In addition to following the discussion here, I/we look forward to receiving comments on the NARA Strategic Plan update through the NARA comment processes.
Thanks for the attention and spreading the word!
